Gastrointestinal Therapy

The Gut and The Mind

Gastrointestinal psychotherapy involves an understanding of the relationship between the gut and the mind, as well as knowing about the various conditions, treatments and procedures and the day to day effects.

For several years I worked at St Mark’s Hospital in London, a hospital purely for gastroenterology and coloproctology patients, providing specialist psychotherapy.  I have continued to have a special interest in working with clients who are affected by gastrointestinal and bowel conditions and for whom specialist counselling can be of great help.

Over the years I have worked with clients who live with:

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) – Ulcerative Colitis & Crohn’s Disease
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea
  • Incontinence
  • Stomas
  • Fistulas
  • Surgery
  • Cancer

As well as working with clients privately I also work on a consultancy basis for Gastroenterology Departments in NHS Scotland delivering counselling and psychotherapy. I also lecture and provide training for healthcare professionals and support groups on the gut and the mind.
